A floating wind turbine tested in the Hydrodynamic and Ocean Engineering Tank
Within the framework of transnational access of the Marinet2 European project, Centrale Nantes facilities hosted a team from Rostock University to test a new concept of floating wind turbine.

These tests took place in the Hydrodynamic and Ocean Engineering Tank of the LHEEA laboratory from October the 16th to the 27th.
The project is a collaboration of GICON and the University of Rostock to develop a new floating offshore substructure for wind turbines out of steel-reinforced concrete. The tests' objective was to validate the servo-hydro-aero-elastic simulation code SiWEC (developer: Chair of Wind Energy Technology).
The 1/50 Froude scaled wind turbine model of the NREL 5MW provided by Centrale Nantes was mounted on the GICON floater. The system was instrumented and tested in wave and wind conditions in the tank.
