Against a backdrop of elections and geopolitical tensions on the continent (and further afield), the ‘Europe’ working group of the International Relations Commission of the Conférence des Grandes Ecoles (CGE) has launched a debate on raising awareness of European values and citizenship among students at elite French universities.

Given that these universities have so far taken different approaches to this issue, the CGE organised a webinar on Thursday 16 May to highlight the inspiring initiatives of various organisations on this subject. These organisations - Agence Erasmus + France, Institut Jacques Delors - Académie Notre Europe, Fédération Française des Maisons de l'Europe, Maison d'Europe d'Angers, Eurofeel, EM Strasbourg, Centrale Nantes - shared their feedback and highlighted levers for action as well as opportunities for collaboration and funding.

Cécilia Provost from the International Relations Department represented Centrale Nantes, presenting the school's focus on values, in particular those promoted by Europe. Raising awareness at the school is achieved through internationalisation at home, promoting civic commitment among students and encouraging active mobility.

* The 'Conférence des Grandes Ecoles' has nearly 300 members*, including 242 elite French universities. (engineering, management, architecture, political science, creation & design, journalism, defence, agronomy and agriculture, veterinary and health), all of which are recognised by the French State and award a Master's degree. Some of them also award PhDs and national master's degrees.
