Jessy prepared his thesis at the GeM Institute as part of the IRT Jules Verne PERFORM program, under the supervision of Christophe Binetruy (GeM, thesis supervisor), Nahiene Hamila (IRDL, co-supervisor) and Sébastien Comas-Cardona (GeM, co-supervisor).
His research was focused on developing a new hybrid numerical model coupling finite elements and the ALE method to simulate the shaping of dry preforms manufactured using Tailored Fiber Placement (TFP) technology. TFP preforms are manufactured by laying a continuous strand of reinforcement sewn onto a support material along curvilinear trajectories chosen so as to obtain continuous fibrous reinforcements with continuously variable orientation and thickness within the preform. This technology leads to optimal composite structures by combining textile additive manufacturing and composite stamping, while eliminating the production waste generated during traditional forming. In addition to the numerical aspects, an experimental part is carried out to validate the model developed.
