- FLOATGEN,
Ongoing measurement campaign on the FLOATGEN wind turbine in the framework of the VAMOS project
A nacelle-mounted LiDAR, which allows upstream wind measurements, was installed in October 2020 on the floating offshore wind turbine, Floatgen, being tested on the Centrale Nantes offshore test site, SEM-REV.

As a reminder, the VAMOS project (Validation, Measurement and Optimisation for Floating Wind Turbines) aims to carry out on-site test campaigns to better understand the behaviour of floating offshore wind turbines. This new database is essential to reduce the uncertainties and risks - and therefore the costs - of this very promising technology.
A first LiDAR system was therefore installed in October 2020. Watch a video of its installation on the wind turbine, Floatgen, currently being tested on SEM-REV test site:
The installed LiDAR is a Wind Iris TC from Leosphere (a VAISALA Company) which can collect upstream wind measurements up to 200 metres in front of the wind turbine rotor. It will run throughout the VAMOS project until June 2022.
The knowledge acquired from the test campaigns will be directly used in the design of an improved turbine controller to optimise dynamic behaviour and reduce loads. In the long term, this will lead to lighter and cheaper turbines.
This project is the result of the collaboration of 7 partners:
This project is funded by BMWi and the European programme Marinet2
