Nicolas Moës awarded the title of Doctor Honoris Causa by the University of Liège

Centrale Nantes Professor Nicolas Moës, of the Research Institute for Civil and Mechanical Engineering (GeM) and elected member of the Académie des sciences, was awarded an honorary doctorate by the University of Liège on 19 March.

This date marked the opportunity for the academic community of the University of Liège to recognize outstanding scientists, distinguished for the remarkable quality of their work and their fundamental contribution to the advancement of society, as well as eminent personalities from the political, economic, social or cultural world.

For Nicolas Moës, who obtained his engineering degree from the University of Liège in 1992, the ceremony at his alma mater represented a return to his roots.

Recipient of a CNRS silver medal in 2014, of ERC funding in 2017, and the 2019 ONERA Award for Mechanical Sciences for Aeronautics and Aerospace, Professor Nicolas MOËS is also a senior member of the Institut Universitaire de France and an elected member of the Académie des sciences.

His areas of research include: damage, breakage, contact, extended finite elements (X-FEM), Thick level set (TLS) approach, the inequality level-set approach (ILS). He teaches the following disciplines: numerical mechanics, extended finite elements (X-FEM), configurational mechanics.
