QS World University Rankings by Subject 2025: Centrale Nantes ranked 102nd in the world for Mechanical Engineering

Centrale Nantes is ranked among the top French schools and universities for the quality of its research and its reputation in the QS World University Rankings - Subject Rankings 2025 - one of the most respected world rankings, published today. Centrale Nantes is ranked 102nd in the world and 4th in France for Mechanical Engineering and in the top 200 for Civil Engineering, also 4th in France.

Centrale Nantes has made significant progress across several engineering fields:
 
  • Mechanical, aeronautical and manufacturing: Centrale Nantes stands at 102nd in the world for this subject and 4th in France - behind Université Paris-Saclay, Polytechnique and Université PSL
  • Civil and structural: the school is ranked 4th France and is one of only six French institutions ranked in the top 200 worldwide for this subject alongside Ecole des Ponts ParisTech, Université Paris-Saclay, Université PSL and INSA Lyon, Université Grenoble Alpes.
  • Electrical and electronic: Centrale Nantes ranks in the world's top 400.

This ranking, which places Centrale Nantes at 308 in the world for Engineering and Technology underscores Centrale Nantes' reputation for excellence in research and education as illustrated for example by:
 
  • 7 Erasmus Mundus Joint Masters, 5 of which are coordinated in-house
  • 80% of our graduates across all programmes are in post within 3 months or less

Ranking methodology and performance

This year, the QS World University Rankings analysed the reputation and research output of over 5,203 institutions. From this group, 1,747 were ranked across 55 narrow subjects (e.g. Mechanical, aeronautical and manufacturing) and 5 broad subject areas (including Engineering and Technology). Five indicators determine the rankings: academic reputation - employer reputation - research citations per paper  - H-index - international research network.
