Renewal of another Erasmus Mundus Programme at Centrale Nantes

Centrale Nantes is pleased to announce that the EMship+ programme, an Erasmus Mundus Joint Master Degree, has been renewed for 4 more years.

The EMship+ programme has been designed to provide high level education in Naval Architecture and Ship & Offshore Design, through a 2-year Master degree. EMship+ implies mobility in minimum two EU countries, with a possibility of an internship in a third country (Italy, Romania, UK and France, or further afield: Japan, USA, Australia, Korea, Brazil etc.)

The consortium is composed of nine European universities with strong expertise in the diverse fields of Marine Engineering. Four universities which deliver the double degree:

  • University of Liège (Belgium), programme coordinator 
  • University of Rostock (Germany)
  • Centrale Nantes (France)
  • Polytechnic University of Madrid (UPM - Spain)
Other academic partners providing internship topics among other actions:

  • Dunarea de Jos University of Galati (Romania)
  • ICAM - Institut Catholique d’Arts et Métiers (France)
  • Southampton Solent University (UK)
  • University of Genova (Italy)
  • West Pomeranian University of Technology (Poland)
Seven prestigious universities worldwide are also partners of the consortium:

  • University of Osaka (Japan)
  • Istanbul Technical University (Turkey)
  • Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (Brasil)
  • Pusan National University (South Korea)

  • University of Sciences and Technology of Oran (Algeria)
Finally, a strategic Advisory Board consisting of high level decision makers of leading European maritime companies and representatives from the associated universities actively contribute to the total quality management.

What’s the added value of EMship+?


  • Two engineering degrees (double degree) awarded by two European countries (Belgium and Germany, France or Spain), conferring the titre d'ingénieur (Master);
  • Mobility in minimum two EU countries, with a possibility of an internship in a third country;
  • High diversity of specialisation: Naval architecture (Liège, Belgium), Pleasure craft (Southampton, Solent, UK), yacht design (UNIGE, Italy), CFD and hydrodynamics (University of Galati, Romania and Centrale Nantes, France), Offshore structures, Production (Rostock, Germany), Ship design & Structures (West Pomeranian University of Technology, Poland), Composite materials for marine structures (ICAM Nantes, France), Offshore Wind and Renewable Marine Energy (UPM Spain) etc.;
  • Fully taught in English, with the opportunity to learn other languages;
  • An internship in industry - shipyards, certification companies, engineering firms, etc (5 to 6 months);
  • Possibility to apply for EU scholarships.
