Seminar: Impact of mesh adaptation for turbulent flows in aeronautics.
Dr. Frédéric Alauzet, Senior Researcher and head of the Gamma team at INRIA Saclay, will speak on the topic "Impact of mesh adaptation for turbulent flows in aeronautics. On the way towards the certification of digital solutions?"
Centrale Nantes - Amphi E
On November 18, 2019 from 15:00 To 16:00
This talk will present recent advances in anisotropic mesh adaptation for RANS simulations. It will focus on the prediction of drag and lift in aeronautics and turbomachinery applications.
First of all, each component of the adaptive mesh strategy will be presented: numerical solver, RANS feature-based and goal-oriented error estimation methods (that we will compare), remeshing and interpolation methods. The key point is to propose robust numerical methods compatible with strong anisotropy, ie ratios of 1: 10000.
We will describe how, in practice, the mesh adaptation loop is achieved and the advantages of doing so in this way (multigrid procedure, free convergence, etc.).
In the examples presented, we show the early capture of functional interest and mesh convergence of the solution, automatically and whatever the initial mesh. A first step towards the certification of digital solutions.
