- Prizes and Awards,
Siddhartha H. Ommi - award-winning finalist for the Ioannis Vardoulakis PhD prize at the ALERT Geomaterials 2023 Workshop
Siddhartha H. Ommi was one of two finalists to receive a Ioannis Vardoulakis PhD prize at the annual ALERT Geomaterials workshop held in Aussois from 25 to 27 September 2023.
on October 9, 2023
Siddhartha H. Ommi prepared his PhD thesis entitled 'Study of hydro-mechanical instabilities in geomaterials' at the Research Institute in Civil and Mechanical Engineering (GeM), under the supervision of Prof. Giulio Sciarra and co-supervised by Prof. Panagiotis Kotronis at Centrale Nantes. He defended his thesis at the GeM on 14 April 2022. He joined the school as a member of faculty on 1 September 2023.
In his thesis, Siddhartha H. Ommi studied instabilities during two-phase fluid flow (water and air) within geomaterials, such as soils. This thesis has left in its wake numerous possibilities ranging from coupled formulations to experimental investigations. This work is fundamental in the context of underground storage of CO2 and hydrogen, and also to explain interesting geometric crack patterns found in nature.
