As of 1 January 2022, Centrale Nantes became a component institution of the new Nantes University (see decree on the creation of Nantes University published in the Official Journal on 3 October 2021). The new establishment created by Centrale Nantes, the University of Nantes, Nantes University Hospital, Inserm, Nantes Saint-Nazaire School of Fine Arts, Nantes National School of Architecture and the Jules Verne Institute of Technology will be a new public higher education and research institution. With a common governance bringing together higher education and research, hospitals and industry, it will provide a unified strategy for the Nantes site. Learn more
The Nantes-based NExT (Nantes Excellence Trajectory) project was selected by an international jury to become an I-SITE (Initiatives Science, Innovation, Territoires, Economie) within the PIA 2 - Investment for the Future Programme.
The NExT project aims to boost the research and academic dynamic transforming Nantes into a world-class university site for health and engineering.
The pending €369 M grant is intended to accelerate the transformation of the Nantes site, building on closer links between the university and Centrale Nantes.
Led by the University of Nantes, Centrale Nantes, Nantes University Hospital and Inserm, the NExT project aims to make Nantes a world-class university site, recognized for its expertise in research, training and innovation on two major and interdisciplinary societal issues: future health (innovative biotherapies, nuclear medicine and cancer, precision medicine etc) and the industry of the future (advanced production technologies, ocean engineering etc).
This new funding should be targeted at structural projects which are not only very ambitious in terms of research and training but also serve to reinforce existing collaboration between the partner institutions. This allocation should trigger the creation of a new university model in Nantes, founded around closer links between Centrale Nantes and the University of Nantes.
