Programme Overview

The objective of this option is to provide a framework for our students to be more present and active in economic, philanthropic or associative projects (including humanitarian work, NGOs...) in order to help prepare their entry into the workforce and integration in society at large.

The aim is to develop the future engineer's initiative through a project which capitalises on both academic studies and personal initiative.

Admission

International students can follow this option, taught in French, via:

  • A double degree programme - Open to international students selected by our partner institutions. Selected students spend two years studying courses from the engineering programme at Centrale Nantes. This usually includes one year of the common-core engineering curriculum followed by one year of specialisation. Double degree students are typically accepted after successfully completing two or three years of higher education in their home institution.
  • The fast-track engineering programme: Open to students with a Bachelor's or equivalent degree in science. Our fast-track programme gives international students who are qualified to bachelor level the opportunity to gain the 'diplôme d'ingénieur' in just two years.
Course Content

A maximum of six projects per intake are accepted subsequent to a selection process. Throughout the project students are closely accompanied by a member of faculty and regular sessions are organized to bring the participants of the different projects together.

Examples of projects
  • Building of a new school in India - communication and funding campaign
  • Feasibility study for setting up a company in Madagascar
  • Preparation for a transatlantic yacht race

Pitch your specialisation : Alexis, specialisation Personal Project Development

My name is Alexis DELAGE, I am a final year student at Centrale Nantes on the general engineering programme. After preparing for the competitive entrance exams at Clémenceau high school in Nantes, I was offered a place at Centrale Nantes. This year I'm following the specialisation in 'Computer Science for Artificial Intelligence' and the professional option 'Personal Project Development'.

20 seconds to pitch your specialisation:

The 'Personal Project Development' option gives students the opportunity to develop a project that they feel passionate about. It can be a personal project such as writing a novel, or training on an educational aspect, for example. My project is to develop a website for the school's student associations and more widely student life at the school. It will be called 'Nantrale Plateforme'.

3 reasons to choose this specialisation:

First of all, it gives us the time to work on a project that we feel strongly about. It also offers motivational support to stick with it, pursue the project, and avoid giving up halfway through. And finally, it provides support in terms of project management and structure to ensure that our project is well defined and that we are going in the right direction.

Why Centrale Nantes?

I chose Centrale Nantes first of all for its computer science orientation, and the specialisations on offer. My second criterion was also proximity. And finally, there was the ecological aspect, since at the time Centrale Nantes was already ahead of the game in these matters, so this was also something that played a part in my decision.

What's next?

I'm going to work mainly in web and mobile development, which I'm particularly interested in because of the interaction with the user and the societal benefits that this can bring.
